Staple Food Price will Back to Normal

The staple foods price in several traditional markets remains experiencing increase and is predicted would be stable a month after Eid ul-Fitr.

Based on the data of Jakarta Economy Bureau, the price of 21 staple food commodities continue to increase on the third and fourth week in July 2015

"Based on the data of Jakarta Economy Bureau, the price of 21 staple food commodities continue to increase on the third and fourth week in July 2015,” said Section Head of Food Security, Jakarta Economy Bureau, Marlina Widya Dewi, at City Hall, Wednesday (7/29).

Dewi voiced the hike price on food staple is unoptimal supply. “Chili for instance, because its supply from Central Java to Jakarta is not normal yet,” she told.

She went on the say that staple food price will slowly decline on the second week or one month after Eid ul-Fitr. “Price declining, either retail or wholesale, is due to supply of 21 food commodities will back to normal,’ he uttered.

She added until now, Jakarta Provincial Government does not have a plan to open a market operation to suppress the hiking price of staple food in the capital. “This week, we are about to hold a meeting evaluation for implementation of market operation and bazaar that held during last Ramadhan,” he added.

As known, in the third week of July 2015, Rp 135 thousand/kg of beef (typical) was sold or increase to Rp 14,974 from the second week. Similar thing was also spotted on beef with beef (original), which is Rp 17,468/kg or increase to Rp 126 thousand, as well as chili from Rp 8 thousand to Rp 11 thousand/kg.
